Painting your wheels.

Is there a specific brand or brands of paint that you recommend? Or does everyone do the dupi-color thing?

My O.Z. rims are starting to get alittle worn, so I am thinking about going with an option of taping off the interior of the spokes and leaving them alloy gray while I paint the tops a deeper gunmetal or black. Maybe an anodized black if I can find them.

Thoughts, feelings, suggestions.

PS- Likely to paint my calipers while I am at it. Probably going with a blue. Either a deep blue, or just bright blue.

Going to look tacky IMO if you leave the lip silver. Strip the paint with aircraft stripper and then paint the inside so the lip is polished.

Wasn't planning on not painting the lip. Just the sides of each of the spokes. Spend a few minutes to make sure that I did a good job with the tape and have alittle acrylic thiner to clean the edges up when I am done.

If you end up painting them you should post up pics when they're done. I was thinking about doing the same thing because my rims are looking a little rough also. I just wasn't sure how it would turn out.

Well if its going to happen, it will happen before the shoot out in August, so it might be fairly quick.

Any suggestion or idea are always welcome as well. Would like something kind outside the box without them looking tacky (meaning no polished lip).

Polished lip looks tacky on wheels? Hmm, ok.

If you don't want to do the polished lip, paint the whole wheel a color. A silver lip looks dumb.

The polished lip is way to overdone. I guess I just don't want to be like any other guy. Want something unique or close to it that fits me. Thats why I am fishin' for ideas that might get the creative juices flowing.

Buy some nice rims instead of painting over garbage to make it look good.

The current rims aren't garbage. They are just looking alittle faded and worn. And while I would love to by brand new rims and put them on my car, I don't quite have $700 dollars laying around.

To me, much easier spending 50 bucks on paint and renewing the finish on the rims that I currently own. That way I don't have to dig into my 420a-t fund.

I use regular paint and don't have any problems. Just sand the wheels some, use self etching primer then shoot it with regular paint and apply clear.

No this would be all worked by hand. Likely to use Aircraft Stripper, then go over it with 3M green, followed by two coats of primer, 3 coats of color and 2 coats of clear coat.

I would be stripping the enamel myself, by hand.
