tire scrubs.

the car had 16's, 205 with tokico lumina's and sportline springs., when i put the body kit on the car it lowered it. The roads in my area don't favour that low of a vechicle. So i bought the prokit and 18's, 225. The problem is everytime i go over a bump or go around a corner at speed, the tire scrubs on the inner fender of the rear wheels. So i thought the rear shock were junk, so i changed them with the adjusttable kyb Agx. Now i dont scrub going over bumps but do going around corners. Whats the deal? Is there a suspension component i need to replace? i cant seem to stiffin up the back of the car. or is that as good as it gets , and i just need to get a narrower tire?

You wont get much narrower than 205s without seacricing performance. Go with smaller wheels. 17" should be fine. you have to remember, the bigger the wheel, the shorter your turning radius will be.

You don't have a worn out suspension piece, you just picked the wrong wheels. Your wheels have too low of an offset. They are rubbing (not scrubbing) against the rear inner fender lip. To fix this, you could go with a narrower tire, or do what most do - roll the fenders. Do not cut the fenders, as that lip is an important piece of the unibody. How important I am not sure, but I wouldn't want to be t-boned without it.

If you are decreasing your tire profile while increasing your wheel diameter, so that your wheel and tire combo has a diameter which does not exceed the stock diameter (a diameter of about 25"), then your turning radius should not be in question at all.

Smaller wheels will not necessarily solve this issue at this is an issue of width and offset.

Turning radius isnt affected, because its only the back wheel that are scrubing. The diameter of the tire combo i have now is only .08 inches larger then stock. I thought the offset for the eclipse was 40 to 45 mm and i would be ok. If thats not the case, what is the proper off-set? Wait, dont answer that.. I read what everone wrote when i put the kit on my car, last thing i need to do is get flamed by the " SEARCH" goons..

long and the short of it.. narrower tire, like 215? Or roll the inner fenders...

gotcha.

You shouldn't have to roll the fenders with 225's if you have the right offset - which begs the question.. What is the offset of your wheels?

Anyways, you have your answer; Goodluck Chimo

What offset do you have? You could also get an alignment with slightly more negative camber in the meantime.

What is your rear camber currently? Do you have a rear camber kit? If you do, it may be adjusted for too much positive camber.

I rolled the rear fnders today after work and no more scrubing, so far. I'm going to wait a few weeks now and then check tire wear.. I didnt think a 1" drop would affect the camber by that much, but I gues with wider tires, that much matters.. Thanks for all the help..
