Intercooler pipe question

I was wondering I drive a 1995 Talon TSI awd. I hear alot of peaple just buying uppir intercooler pipes and leaving the bottom stock. Do you think im going to gain anything sugnificant by doing both rather than just doing the upper? Also what are some good upper intercooler BOV setups, for a pretty tight budget? thanks

First do you plan on upgrading to a FMIC in the Future? If so how soon?

If/when you do decide to fo with a FMIC the lower pipe will be useless because the ic piping will need to exit the turbo and go towards the driver side. ( in the case of short route piping the uppers will be useless also)

Now if you are planning on staying with the SMIC for a while, I would suggest that you go ahead and get the lower pipe as well. The stock woven one is sh*t. As the get old the tend to leak and they also expand under boost.

Now for the BOV, When you order a set of pipe most manufactors will weld any flange on that you want. Since you said you are on a budget I would suggest a 1G BOV. They have been proven time and time again on mildly modded DSM. And for $50 you cant go wrong.

Most people tend to get just the upper intercooler pipe because that is where most of the air is restricted. When in good condition, the stock lower intercooler pipe works just fine as far as performance is concerned. The only part of the lower intercooler pipe that is restrictive is the silencer box. However all you really need to get rid of it is a 2.25" piece of straight pvc piping to take the place of the silencer box. It is really up to you whether you want to switch out the licp. I would say if it doesn't cost too much more, just get the complete upper and lower intercooler pipe set...
