I've heard some good things about ebay FMIC cores, so I was looking to get one. I dont know what the difference between whether the bar and plate, or, tube and fin is design is better.

So, if someone could please enlighten me, I would appreciate it

From the kits on eBay here are the ones I suggest.

This one seems to be pretty solid, decently priced and comes with the J pipe.

This is the style kit I run, it's basically a SBR 2g short route kit.

I like the first one, what is the difference between bar and plate, and tube and fin.
Would something like this be worth buying?

J pipe is required for 14b or 16g right?

You would have to buy a universal piping kit, 4 ply couplers, t bolt clamps, bov flange, j pipe, and have the bov flange welded on. Yes it's required for 14b and 16g. I have one FS if you're interested.

if you do buy a universal core be ready to do your own custom piping and weld your BOV flange to it, other than that there are a lot of quality ebay intercooler kits like the SSautochrome that proto is running

Not yet, Im looking around locally. Still trying to sell the Focus. We owe a little more than its worth, so its kind of hard. Just trying to get someone to take the loan. But I want to buy one relativley stock, so I figured I can start getting some parts that arent too expensive now

What are your goals with the car? I have the ssautochrome fmic on my car and to be honest, i'm not very impressed. I guess you get what you pay for, I will soon be going with some sort of custom 4" garret core design from Shearer. I have learned through some of the top dsm guys that a good core can make a ton more power, around 100hp on some applications. NOT bolt on power, but with a thick quality core you can go that much more extreme in tuning because of the much better intake temps. I'd love to see numbers and temperatures between a cheap ebay core and a good garret type core. I've seen amazing differences with evo cores so I'm assuming it would be the same for us dsm'ers. Like I said originally, if your not trying to get too crazy with the car going the route of a ssac type of affordable intercooler kit may not be a bad idea.
