OK.
Stock boost is only 12 psi, maybe 14, but falling to 11 by 5k.
You can run 14 psi to redline with either the 14b or the Big28, and either one is going to make your engine feel like completely different. the top end will be usable, below 3k the party is just getting started, not 1/2 way over. it will feel slower since you won't get as big a kick but it will just keep pulling like a freight train to redline, instead of laying down and dying.
Choices:
1:
BIG28 from FP, drops in but unless you get one used, it's gonna cost you $500 minimum and maybe $899 if you can't take your turbo off and live without it for potentially a few months. Not the same t28 that comes off of nissans so unless it is DSM specific like the BIG 28 or old FP T2828, you can't use those.
2:
14b, max $200 bucks for a mint one with all lines, I bought RRE SS line ($55), RRE j pipe, couplers, and j to sidemount pipe ($85 on sale). I also converted to 1g water pipe and t-stat housing at the same time, but I had most of those parts laying around. You don't need to do so, you just have to dick with the waterlines a little, and dick with the oil return. In total I paid UNDER 315 for everything.
With any upgraded turbo you are gonna need an MBC to get more than 8 psi. The factory BCS bleeder system won't leak enough air. Recommend Voodoo from ebay for cheap.
Oh and president? The 14b is an equal turbo to the big28... even better at around 15psi. They need the same mods and flow about the same amount of air. Especially if you AREN'T A CHEAPASS by getting some crap j pipe that flows like Ass.
What's the point? Have you priced a t25 recently? Since the honda boys got into `em they went from free-$50 to $300. I sold a completely clapped out t28 in desperate need of a trip to FP for new wheels, a new compressor housing and a center section rebuild (only the exhaust housing was still good) for $85.
