Hmmmm. That's something I would of never thought of. I'm gonna have to look into that when I rebuild my motor in a few months.

Great way to get us thinking...
I am going to be doing some engine work this summer and that would be a great start to some solid modifications.
Thanks for putting the time in to write it up.

So are the lifters the same between the 420a and the 4G63? I believe they may be... I have some really nice Crane lifters in my 420a... have not thrown one yet... hope I never do.

You mentioned that Shep used them and then went back to the 3G lifters. Do you happen to know if any of the other major vendors like AMS and Buschur are using them in their Drag/Dyno cars?

The 3g style apparently pump up too much in the topend making the valves float 10-20 thousandths.

FP recommends 1g style for high revving 5R/4R applications, etc. for this reason. Jake Montgomery switched back to the 1g's and gained quit a bit.

Actally straight off Fp's site.

"For very high RPM applications we recommend using the early DSM style HLA's (they have a smaller diameter plunger) and reducing oil pressure to the HLA oil galley by using the early JDM oil regulator or a restricted orifice in the oil distribution block. These two items reduce HLA pump up effects. "
