leak after leak

I bought a 1998 eclipse gs with 96000 miles on it. Upon purchase it did not have a signs of an oil leak other then around the head gasket. After a few days of driving it I noticed oil dripping from under the car. I took it to a local mechanic he said that the oil pan was leaking, he took me under the car to show me that the entire pan was leaking. He also showed me that there was a lot of oil on this engine and that the rear main seal might be leaking as well. I have since had the head gasket replaced and the oil pan and gasket, if I get the rear main seal replaced where else could the oil come form? Are the oil pressure regulators in these cars know to be bad?

I've heard the rear main seal is a PITA on our cars. Not only is it a common leak, but my friend told me you have to pull the entire engine to fix it.....lame. I hope I'm wrong though because I believe mine is leaking as well.

You dont have to pull the engine but you do have to remove the transmision to get to the rear main seal.

YES! always take care of the basic maintenance before you even think about modding your car.

I tried an oil leak stopper by stp and the oil leak has seemed to stop.

I have had the same problem for awhile now. I even got my rear seal replaced and it still seems to leak slowly even though my oil level remains the same.
