check engine light is on again
I just got my 97 Talon TSi AWD repaired a few days ago because the turbo blew, the turbo manifold was cracked and the turbo oil line was leaking. All that has been completely replaced, absolutly brand new Manifold, Oil Line and Turbo, but today the check engine light turned on again.
I stopped the car as soon as I got home (it turned on only a few miles from home so I didn't drive it far with the light on) me and my brother checked it out but niether of us know much about why the check engine light could be on.
We revved it up a bit (Only up to about 5,000 rpm) and the first time we did it a puff of blue smoke came out of the exhaust but we did it a few minutes later and there was nothing, no smoke leaking anywhere in the engine or in the exhaust.
The place I got it repaired at said that I may have occasional puffs of blue smoke because of the oil still in the catalyst. They also said that the piston rings could have possibly been leaking but if the piston rings were fried the engine wouldn't be running good would it?
The only thing I can think of is maybe the O2 sensor in the exhaust is damaged because of the smoke. That's the only thing I can guess because the car is running perfectly fine.
Please help me out!

you are on the border line of being able to use the "key dance" with your ignition.
1. Insert key
2. turn the key until all accessories turn on, but dont turn on the car. Do this three times.
3. Count the times the check engine light flashes at you. It will flash in sequences.
Go to the net and type in what it read back to you, then the problem diagnosis is done.
If you arent so lucky and it doesnt work for you, like my 97, then you need a datalogger. I bought an m100 palm pilot, dloaded the free software for Palm n Stein, bought the OBD II adapter, and now I can pull CEL codes, and tune. Great piece of machinery the datalogger is.
The only other things that would cause blue smoke is;
1. Worn valve stem seals/valve guides
2. Worn piston rings
How many miles are on your car?

Ok, I'll try the key dance after this post but to asnwer your mileage question, the chassis and the Heads has 150,000 on it. The things that DON'T have 150,000, and have considerably low mileage is the Alternator, Battery, PS Pump, Turbo, Turbo Manifold, Turbo Oil line, Spark Plugs and Wires, the Block and probably more stuff that I forgot, but that's the most of it.

Or an EVAP leak. LOL. I've had a CEL31 for over 5 years now with no ill effects. Well, now I have two; EVAP and EGR.

actually Kuz, Autozone doesnt do that anymore, they got sued by a class action style law suit from mechanics saying autozone was stealing mechanics business..... hence my purchase of a datalogger

Two months ago I had a code checked by autozone .. When did this start?
My uncle owns a shop, he ass raped me when I brought my first car in with a little problem that turned into a $750 problem .. and I'm family. They charge 60-75 bucks to check a damn code .. wtf.

Alright, I got the word back on my car, and good news, it's the O2 sensor in the O2 housing. Well... it's not good news but better news than a blown engine right?
I need the car for this week though so what do you guys think about driving around with a bad O2 sensor? Do you think I'd be straight for a couple weeks or am I at high risk of hurting my engine? I barely ever race the car and I'm nto hard on it at all so I think it wouldn't be too dangerous but then again I don't know the kind of damage that can do.
So tell me if you think I'll be good driving on a bad O2 sensor for a couple weeks or should I get it repaired A.S.A.P.

Well first off Go KUZZZ man i kick ass for calling that problem. Second auto zones in RI still check codes. Thats like town fair tire getting sued for giving free tire rotation. You will be running rich due to this o2 sensor.

Yea AWD, good call. Yea, I know I'll be running rich, but that's just another thing to fix to make my car faster. What I mean is the fact that I havn't felt the full 210 HP from this car yet... when I got it, the turbo was bad, then once that was repaired the O2 sensor acted up and I found out that my catalytic converter is clogged with oil so I'm getting TERRIBLE backpressure. I'm gonna install an off-road cat pipe as soon as the O2 sensor is fixed so that should give me 210 plus that off-road pipe should give a good 5+ hp, 10+ hp if I'm lucky. Thanks for everyone's advice.
