Suspension Question

Hello first of all, my name is Cherry, I'm new here. I have a question dealing with suspension. I want to lower my eclipse about two or three inches. Where can I find the Coilovers to do so? Does anyone have a link to a place where I can get some? Thanks

first of all welcome to the site. second of all coilovers can be found anywhere in many placed on the net, including ebay, they have a nice selection, don't buy the cheap ebay ones though. Just wondering, are you gonna lower ur car and keep it lowered, or do you want the adjustability coilovers offer, the selection ur limited to is related to your budget. I've always heard good things about skunk2 and ground controls, so those might be some brands you might wanna look into, there should be others as well but i can't remember their names.

I would like to keep the car lowered. Okay, I went to skunk2.com and I looked around. I noticed that they had coilovers for my car for around $280. They also had full coilovers, whats the difference? If I got the drag launch kit, what else would I have to buy? Or would I take it to the shop and they would tell me to buy all this extra stuff?

Okay, I'll take a look at it. But with that skunk2 coilover kit, is that all you buy? I just want to know exactly how much money I'll be spending.

If ya plan on keeping it slammed lowering springs are the way to go, eibach pro-kit or sportlines springs are some good springs i prefer the prokit though, with lowering ur car though u'll need some shocks to go with it. ur old shocks won't be able to holdout being compressed and trying to do it's job rite. ppls suggest getting tokico blues, kyb agx or gr2, it's ur choice how u wanna do things though. good luck on finding urself a nice suspenion setup

Cherry babe,
What gen do u have? 1st or 2nd?

U will need struts also and if your a 1st gen then buy KYB's (adjustables or not)

If you are second gen then make sure you get Tokicos (your choice for adjustables or not)

Also pick up a Ingalls camber kit for at least the rear if not rear and front

So I need alot more than skunk2 coilovers? Okay, let me ask, who has went out and bought this kit and how much did they pay total? I'm sorry if I'm a dumb girl, but I don't know much about these things. So can some one put it in plainer english?

Well i guess it really depends on what you want.

If you wanna hardcore slam ur car then get the skunk2 coilovers, these are a nice set up but are noisy at times and also arent the best of a ride. BUT you can hardcore lower your car.

If you want to lower your car but have a good ride still and also play it a little cheaper, look for eibachs pro kit for your car on Ebay.com or use dsmtuners.com and use their buy it forum. This kit is a very very good kit for a second generation eclipse (years 95-99). I would reccomend if you are a 1g (92-95) then get the Eibach Sportline kit.

Hopefully this helps.

OH you NEED new struts and camber kit either way

i wouldn't say she needs a camber kit, only to get an alignment after she lowers her car. and just incase, strut = shock or shock absorber

Been there...done that....she needs a camber kit unless she plans on buying new tires every 6 months....the mechanics will not be able to fully align the car with out the camber kit....especially if she plans on lowering the car more than 2 inches...believe me..ive gone through that..

~95 Talon ESI(turbo'd) sleeper (for sale)

she has a 96 RS btw fella's.

ok, heres some price ranges:

Ingalls front camber kit: $60-70
Ingalls rear camber kit: $40
http://www.tirerack.com/suspension/S...&brand=Ingalls

Eibach Sportline springs (roughly 2" drop when they settle): $285
(you said you wanted 2-3" of drop so I chose these over the proline)
*note* the skunk2 coilovers are roughly the same price from slowboyracing.com if you want them instead*
http://www.slowboyracing.com/shop.php?sid=&cat=1973

Tokico Illumina struts (adjustable): $442
Tokico Illumina strut (non-adjustable): $250
http://www.slowboyracing.com/shop.php?sid=&cat=131

Installation at an average mechanic will roughly run you about $50-$80 per strut assembly. So multiply that by four. The camber kit will probably run you $30-$50 for front and the same for the rear. Mechanics soak you and it sucks. I feel for anyone who cant fix their own cars. Id be broke if I had to pay mechanics, lol.

Granted these can all be found cheaper on ebay. Especially the Eibach Sportline series and skunk2 coilover springs. Just be sure they are for a FWD 2G!!!! Double check the model # before ever bidding.

I suggest using the adjustable struts when using the sportline or skunk2 coilovers springs set at 2" or lower. Its quite a rough drop on the 2G's and the adjustablity will help you keep a smooth ride. So at retail, you are looking at roughly $837 plus tax and/or shipping and roughly $260-$420 of mechanic's labor fee's. Now go price shop and flirt with mechanics!!!!! A LOT! lol

Good job on the prices Jack....well Cherry there you go...i bet that you didnt expect that lowering your car would be so freakn expensive huh?...lol....just follow Jacks list...and i would recomend that you get all your parts before you touch your suspension....you can start with the struts and springs if you want...then quickly get that camber kit in or youl be sorry..i'd be more than happy to lower your car if you werent all the way in georgia town...its a piece of cake, and dont get ripped off by those freakn mechanics....but hey good luck on the project...
