Question on suspension!!

Ok, so I've just ordered my 18" ADR rims with nitto neogen's and want to lower the car when they come in..

I called a local store to see how much they would charge to install my shocks and struts - TOKICO 5-ways and lowering springs...

He told me that my eclipse RS doesn't have springs and they it would be around 800$ to install the struts? WHHAHHH? am I missing something?

There are springs. They are just over the shocks. And it won't be $800 to install. Do it yourself, it's easy.

That dude is a ****ing idiot.

You could ask that guy that if it doesn't have springs, then what exactly is the suspension made of? Leaf springs?

I believe you'd need a spring compressor to remove and install the new springs. I had mine done on my old Avenger a couple years back for around $200. The struts can probably be done yourself, if you don't mind spending a bit of a day to do it.

Never go back to that shop again. That wouldn't make any sense at all to do the struts yourself and get someone to do the springs for you. It's really not to difficult to do either. Please don't pay $200 to get it done. Especially not $800. It's pretty simple if you can find a friend that has done it. But you can figure it out yourself.

It makes a little bit of sense if you don't have a spring compressor.

If you remove the strut assemblies and bring them to most shops (who have a wall mounted spring compressor), they will compress the old units and install the hardware on your new springs and struts for about $10-$35 each. Just call a few shops and ask. Do yourself a favor, the 2 days before you're about to remove your struts, spray allll of the nuts and bolts you'll need to remove and let them soak for the night. Spray em again the next day and let them soak overnight again. Thisshould make your life a LOT easier when you go to loosen everything for disassembly.

its wasn't bad when I did mine, took a good portion of the day because my car is a pain but had fun doing it too with my friends helping me out - just make sure like jack_of_trades said - spray the bolts with PB blaster or something like that before hand- it did make things a little easier.

yeah do it yourself homie...spray some (a lot of) wd-40 or pb the day before...and then that night before so the next morning the bolts will be nice and ready for removal...took me almost four hours for mine (with spring compressors from autozone)...it fun and simple...don't forget the alignment check...
