Have you checked into the cost and labor difference of dropping in a used 94 Galant 4G64 2.4L that came with a DOHC head? BK85 |

People swap to a 4G63 head because it has a turbo dangling off the exhaust manifold, not because it is DOHC. |

I dont know for sure since I have never had any personal experience doing the swap.
With a motor in good condition and the right fuel mods I would think you would be able to run around 6-8 psi safely on the stock internals, stock compression. If you were going to rebuild with low-compression forged internals you would be able to run as much as us 4G63 guys. Essentially what you would be doing is building the 2.4L motors that the 4G63 guys swap into their GST/GSX. |

The reason we put a dohc head on is cause it has hp gains and it flows better than the sohc head. The turbo mani will bolt right up to the sohc (trust me) mines been like that for about 2 years. I am in the middle of doing a the dohc swap right now since the head gasket blew on my sohc after boost creeping to 20psi.
A stock 4g64 can easily handle 10 psi all day everyday. I have been running it for 2 years and no signs of destruction yet. I am running a evo III mani, turbo and 02 housing w/3" exhaust all the way back. I recently added the 3" downpipe and that is when I crept to 20 psi (not good). My friend that runs a 76 trim on a 1g awd was riding with me and he said at 20 psi it ran like a bat out of hell... Thanks, Nathan |

2.0 mani and turbo on a 2.4?
you can bolt up the 2.0 DOHC exhaust manifold and turbo right to the 2.4 SOHC with no mods? not even a upgraded or shaved head gasket to change the compression ratio?

Hey! Nice ride! Just wondering just how much that swap cost ya? I have the 2.4L SOHC and would love to swap to DOHC just for the added power. That way I can save on buying a turbo and get a GSX to go along with my Spyder. Nothing better than One Eclipse than two! lol But for real. How much and how long was the install? Was anything moved to other locations? Any changed in mechanicals? What about the H/p gain? Was it noticable? One

Ummm...where did you guys hear that the DOHC flows more than the SOHC?...because we just checked the specs on the 4g64 16v SOHC head and the 4g63T 16v DOHC head and the 4g64 had much bigger valves. And its not a small difference in valve size either...its a pretty damn big difference lol. Could someone please explain?
