Wondering what to do with my engine.
I have a 1996 Eclipse GS Spyder non turbo and its stock engine was swapped for a 1998 2.4L. Thats all the information I know about it's engine.. I'm not quite sure on what parts I can put in it. I'm pretty sure the 1998 engine came from another GS. What I really want to know is exactly what my engine is so I could start from there. Also I'll be selling this car for a 1998 GSX in 2 years.

From what I remember the eclipse spyder uses a 4g64 . But the GSX is AWD. If you're going to sell it in a couple of years why wait? Why not sell it now and get the gsx.
Anyways i'm sure some one more knowledgeable than I will come along and answer your question. Although I'm pretty sure the Spyder GS has 4g64. |

4g64 2.4l sohc. Same motor that originally came in your Spyder, just two years newer. Have fun.

Well there's not too many performance parts that are made for a 4G64. Although you can make yourself a nice short ram air intake with a heat shield like I did. lol gl

or swap a 4g63t head onto it, so you have a 2.4L DOHC, then more performance parts become available.

I'd go with Biohazard on this one.

GS3, I know I should do that now but frankly I don't have enough money for a gsx. And that was going to be my first upgrade to get an intake. Thanks for everyones help.

Yes the 4G63 head would be better however I don't know his skill level or the difficulty of the swap since the link in that thread is dead. =/

Turbo it. Get awd parts car. Swap it to awd.
Now you don't have to sell it and buy a gsx.

Alright. I'm gonna go through with the 4g63 swap.. And just wondering, could I bolt a stock turbo from a GT or GSX on it? Also, I'm new to upgrading stuff on my car so would all the modifications from the awd swap to the head swap and putting in a turbo, would that still be less than buying a 98/99 GSX?

Depending on how much you get the parts for it is very plausible that the price will be cheaper than buying a gsx. BUT be advised that an awd/turbo conversion is very time consuming and requires a good amount of knowledge to go off smoothly.

You can also search in google for 4g64 turbo and 4g64 performance, and you'll find some great info.

It'd be cheaper and much less of a headache to sell your NT and buy a GSX...although a boosted AWD spyder is sexy as hell. Here are some links for the info you need to do a DOHC head swap and parts list, etc.,. I'd suggest signing up on the YAHOO group for 4g64 too, there are guys that have successfully done the DOHC head swap turbo spyder in there with tons of info.
4g64 : Mitsubishi 2.4 Litre 4G64 owners group 4G64 Performance - Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder GS Those will help you get a the general idea. Remember you'd have do some electrical work along with mechanical for the swap to work. The major stuff that would probably be the most PITA (well they we're gonna be for me at least, so I decided to keep my spyder NT): Electrical side: -Wiring in a turbo ECU, injectors, knock sensor & some other solenoids. Mechanical side: -Getting the block ready to handle boost, forged internals would be ideal and tapping in the knock sensor. I got more links if you need too. Hope this helps.
