Your tires are one of the single most important things as far as handling goes.

Your tires will spin more and more as you upgrade your performance .. You can work on your launch .. but the stickier the tires the better.

Get some 17X8 rims and put on some 235/45/17 tires

Springs and stiffer shocks help the car squat properly for launches.

Polyurethane motormounts keeps you from wheel hopping.

Definetly work on getting stiffer suspension, but also make sure you got some good rubber to go with them or else its pointless, also getting wider rims/tires will help.

Stiff motor mounts
Better suspension
Wider tires drag radials would be good if not slicks
suspension bushings
...AWD conversion

That's a good list there, it wouldn't be a bad idea to follow it in that order too.

id almost do the awd swap before the slicks, as with the awd you almost really wont need slicks

Do you shop with monoply money? Slicks will run you $400 and you have near-instant traction. An AWD swap is over 4K, use your head......

Yes, good list to include "better suspension" :|
Newbie's aren't going to know what that means. So the list should go:

First-Shocks
Second-Springs
Third-Wider rims w/ Z-rated tires
Fourth-Polyurethane motormounts
Fifth-Strut/Stress/Tower bars
Sixth-LSD or LSD insert

At that point your FWD traction will be 100% better than it started and you should be able to cut 1.9 60ft. times on a clean launch.
