Oil Leak???

When i backed my car out of the driveway the otherday after parking it for only about 15 minutes i noticed there was a pretty good amount of oil on the driveway. i looked under the car and it appears as though the oil is leaking somewhere around the drain bolt. Any suggestions???

make sure its tights? take it out (might as well change your oil) and see if the threads are stripped? maybe its starting to split and crack (that would suck).

the head gasket has nothin to do with it, i just thought that might be why it was eatin up so much oil. but imma take the bolt and stuff off when i get home and see if the pan is cracked. (I wish i hadn't changed my oil about 1000 miles or so ago.) but o-well it couldn't hurt.

But yea, its trial and error till you find the problem.

If it is your drain bolt you could probably use some thread tape on it instead of getting a new drain bolt.

If it is in fact the drain bolt, best thing to do is replace it and make sure to not torque it too much. That can damage the threads and can maybe cause a leak over time.

Go to any autoparts store and ask for a oil drain bolt 'seal washer' or 'crush washer'. They make the soft metal crush washers which actually conform to the drain pan (usually made of aluminum) and they also have high-temp rubber washers for this purpose. Clean the surface very well and reinstall the bolt, tightened down to specified torque specs. A little teflon tape on the threads couldn't hurt either, like they said.
