mods
Hey guys. I have a 99 eclipse gs and I am still depating wether to put a stage 2 hahnracecraft turbo kit or N/A mods. How much hp and torque would I get if I went N/A and what are all the N/A mods I could do? I know there is CAI(which I have), Underdrive pulleys(I have) exhaust(getting really soon) and a bored out throttle body. What other NA mods are there that I can do? The best brand that these mods come in would be greatly appreciated too

Cost of turbo plus intalling... $3,000 +
That doesnt inlcude all the tuning and maintence that has to be done on a regular basis. And all the regular engine maintence.
For the 3,000 you could go and have the engine rebuilt, get the cylinders bored, new rods and pistons, get the head ported and polished. then you have solid internals and later on you can push huge shots of nos or a huge amount of boost on a turbo with little worries.

no sure of the HP gains exactly. Depending on how big of a port and polish on the head itself is like 30-50 HP i believe. The reason behind doing the rods, pistons etc. is too have a fresh engine with strong (reinforced) internals designed to be raced. Once you have those you can slap on the turbo and nos and anything else you might like and the engine can take it all day long with little worries.
The biggest mistake people make is spending 3k on an engine with 90,000 miles that is going to need alot of maintence in 10k anyway. So they bankrupt themselves with the turbo then can't afford to keep the engine running :o

Thats good advice. Me personally I don't think it's worth putting a turbo on a 420a motor. Too much time and money. I was thinking about it a while back and came out with a price around 6 to 7 grand. That includes forged internals, turbo and installation. Spend the money on the internals and just add a 100 shot of NOS. It's alot cheaper and easier. :D

You're looking at about $5,000 to build a barely streetable all motor 420A DSM. Even then, you aren't going to break 200hp NA, and you might crack off a 14.9ET if you're a really good wheel man. If you maintain your car, have solid compression numbers (ie; 180+ all across with no more than say 5% difference between any two), aren't losing oil all over the place and your car is generally healthy, you can find a used turbo kit (HRC is best for beginners) for ~$3,000 and run 7lbs all day long without any problems at all. Just start saving for the rebuild that will allow you to turn up the boost and go faster, because we all know the boost bug has needs too.
It's not the turbo that kills stock 420As, it's the people who don't know how to tune them that kill.

besides boring and porting, you could slap on a header, intake manifold, plugs, plug wires, and maybe a better ecu. turbo isn't always the only option.
