Turbo Oil Leak (With Pictures)

This is a repost of the problem i had with pictures. I have a major oil leak with the oil dripping also leaving a trail behind. A mechanic diagnosed it as a problem with the oil return line (he called it the oil tube or pipe). Before i get it fixed, i am wondering if it is actually that tube or is it something like a valve cover or a gasket. Can oil leak this badly if it is either a VC or gasket? The oil just leaks down, almost like from a drain. I thought VC or gasket problems resulted in more of seepage than leaks.

I have two pictures attached of the leak. The oil slides down the thing tube and falls to the ground. So either the tube is broken somewhere towards its begining or from somewhere before the tube. The whole area seems wet as can be seen in the picture. I do not have any tool or expertise to do the job myself. So should i trust the mechanic and get the tube repalced? But i am afraid that after the tube is replaced, the source may be found as something else. So i thought i will ask people here if they can pinpoint it better from the picture maybe. I always knew that there was some seepage in my car due to VC but never something this major. Would appreciate any help.

Thanks,
Vinod

Yummy, looks like the way my car used to be. I can't really see exactly where the leak is originating from. I can give you a couple of suggestions based on experience. We'll start with the most simple:

There's a bracket or something that is part of the oil filter mounting and mine leaks even though I've siliconed it already.

Any tubes or hoses (rubber, etc) that carry oil could be old and deteriorating. I've had to replace some of those as well.

If it is your oil return line then maybe it's just a gasket of some sort instead of the whole line. That also depends on if your line it steel braided or rubber.

Wrose case: your cam seals and crank seal are leaking and you have to remove the timing belt in order to replace those. That, I would wait till you are ready to change your belts and then replace it all. I've had to do this as well since mine was leaking so bad.

Hope that helps some even though it doesn't exactly answer your question.
