What are the perks of it. no one has ever really broken it down for me. right now i run an Apex SAFCII, will the dsm link run piggy back or replace it? is it any better?

DSMlink is a standalone system that still retains the stock ECU its a cross between piggy back and standalone and to me the best pick. The afc has 11 fuel maps.
DSMlink is a datalogger, it has 56 fuel maps i believe and the ability to fine tune WOT and idle, it can also control Timing, airflow (maf), built in ANti lag system, no lift to shift, intergrated for NO2, and also idle speed, rpm limit and stutterbox launch. Also can check and disable CEL's and all your DTC's.

You must run a 95 Ecu and have it sleeved for the Eprom. The DSM link is a great system. Cheap and affordable Stand alone for the 2G DSM. Also DSMChips.com is an awesome system. Exept it comes preprogrammed for you individual set up...I really like DSMchip but yo must have a 95 Eprom ECU for this as well.

Ya i forgot to mention that. It retains the stock ECU but it must be a 95 EPROM ECU that is socketed.

why a 95?? so my 97 ecu wont work?? this isnt going to be like the whole AEM system that needs a laptop.... really not into having another reason for some dumbass to slash my top.
data logger??
and what does sleved mean (well i know what it means, but i dont under stand it how u used it)?
how much does a system like this run??
how hard is it gonna be to swap my APEX out and the dsm link in? (cause apex was kinda a bitch)
and last is my apex worth anything once i pull it out?? havent seen people sell used ones.

You need an EPROM ECU from a 95 turbo. Then it needs to be socketed by a company. Then you have to get a laptop and connect the laptop to the ECU.
Sleved means socketed.
You take the laptop out when your not running the car.
I have seen the set up go for around 800 thats with the Program, ECU, wire.
If you think the AFC was hard don't dive into DSMlink yet your not ready.

well i might have a kinda crappy laptop (old as hell). any one know they system requirements for the dsm link? it would be all that the laptop is used for. and u think it would be ok (stand alone batt is dead) if i run it off a dc inverter, like u would a PS2?

I have always seen it ran with a battery i guess you can do the inverter.

We have reports of people running DSMLink acceptably on a P100 with 24megs of RAM. A laptop like this can be had for less than $100 on E-Bay. Preferably, though, you'll want to locate a laptop with a little more meat to it. Our suggested minimum platform would be a P233 with at least 32meg of RAM running Win98. You'll be very happy with that setup.
The only other major requirement of the laptop is that it provide an RS232, DB9 serial interface of some sort. Almost all older laptops include this, but most newer ones these days do not! Be sure that you have some way of getting a DB9 serial port out of the laptop before committing to it. We have had reports of PCMCIA serial port adapters working well on laptops that do not have built-in serial ports. Also, the USB to DB9 devices seem to work fine as well. We have not verified this ourselves, but a number of our users report both solutions to work seamlessly. DB25 to DB9 converters plugged into the printer port will *NOT* work. Also note that the 1G version will be particularly sensitive to which USB to DB9 converter you select. We've found the Keyspan adapter, available at CompUSA among other places, works very well

That is quoted from the dsmlink site

You will need a 95 Eprom....almost all 95's came with them (gsts or gsx's)
A shitty laptop will do, and you will need to do some good research on tuning.
DSMlink is super good for the money, and if you can it would be a great addition to any dsm. Very flexible, and does a lot more than just A:F and timing....
Just go to dsmlink.com and they break it down pretty good....
