5000 is kind of early to be shifting. Especially when redline is at 7000rpms. Normally I shift at about 6500 rpms.

Actually, here are a couple of sites that might be able to help you FWD guys out...

http://www.dsm.org/archives/1996/03/...06.txt/12.html

http://www.dsm.org/archives/1996/03/19960313.txt/7.html

http://www.dsm.org/archives/1998/08/...04.txt/30.html

3 different ways to launch, but one common goal...

If you have T3 or T28 then shift after 6000rpm is good but with stock T25 shifting at 5000rpm and 6000rpm are same. If you dont believe me you can test it. I did that on Spyder GST and shifting at 5000rpm is not different from shifting at 6000rpm.

shifting at red line will make your engine die soon.

what is so funny ?
If you have doubt about my statement, you can go around and research what red line means and when to shift to have best performance. You only shift close to red line if you have supercharged, with turbo charged shifting at red line does not gain you best power. You can go and find the chart for HP of turbo vs supercharged and find out the answer. I am lazy to post it here.

Go run your little spyder at the track .. I'll guarantee that you'll have a faster quarter time if you shift close to redline then if you shift at 5-6 grand ..

You make more power in 3rd gear at 7k rpms then you do at 5k in 4th.

It also helps to take your front tires down to 20 psi or so to help with traction ..

I never try to shift over 5200rpm with my Spyder but I did try it on Spyder GST. First I shift after 5000rpm then I try couple times at 6500rpm and that GST is totally stock. Shifting at 6500rpm made no different from 5000-5500rpm.
One more point that prove my theory is that the best hp that a Spyder GS can make is 141hp at 5500rpm not 6000rpm which is the red line. And for GST it is at 6000rpm not at 7000rpm which is the red line.
