Auto GST
Hi, im planning on buying a 97 GST with 100k but it is auto. Ok, i've been looking for a turbocharged 2g for quite a damn while now and i just want to get one. Are autos any different from the manuals? Like more boost, etc. I dont know if i should get it or not cause its an auto. Any comments will be appreciated.

The turbo is the same and runs the same boost. That being said, automatics resale for less and are considerably slower. If you sit in traffic alot or don't plan to do an extensive amount of modifications then go for it. If you want to race it later on down the line or plan to make over 300HP then pass and get a manual.

Hehe just put your foot on the brake, hit the gas a little while you are in D let the boost build up and let off the gas :D fun times fun times I would recommend manual if you don't live in a city, me I have an auto and wish I didn't but then there are those times where traffic is bad and i thank god i have an auto.

Im not planning on doing anything really serious to it. Maybe Intake/catback,bigger turbo/intercooler, who knows. It is $4600 and on my prince range. And i guess only traffic i get is on my way to work and stuff.

Sounds like a great deal, go for it although it would be a good deal of work you could always do an auto to manual swap on down the road, one of my friends did it in his garage without a lift in 2 hours so it's not THAT big of a deal

I would see if there are any manual's in your area and compare. If you add an intake, turboback exhaust and eventually do go with a bigger turbo, expect to be about half a second slower then if you had a 5spd.
Good luck with whatever you decide.

or you could go my route and get an IPT tranny with a performance rebuild and a translab shift kit and alto end clutch kit with a 4000 stall tq converter and roast a 5spd....however as VRMAN stated, the 5spd is already that fast...us auto's have to work but let me tell ya, if we even just add a shift kit, the front tires burn and we chirp gears...aint that right Kuz...

you know its not true that automatics are slower. .. . all that you would have to do to make them fast off the line is go a 3,500 stall converter, shift kit and possibly gears (if you can even put those in, FWD?)
how do you think that some of the prostock cars take off so quick.. .. its them stall kits. .they work like hell. .that and some bad ass tires.

We are aware that a auto can be made fast we are saying that it would just be slower with the same mods as a manual asides the tranny. I would go with a manual, I dont know how much a shift kit stall converter etc etc costs but might make up for the price difference inbetween the two.
