Installing Altezzas

Alright, I'm going to order some Altezzas.. are the ones on ebay fine, just the regular altezzas??

Secondly, I'm planning on painting the centerpiece and I foun a post from someone who painted theirs.. so I've got the list of things to buy to do it- but any particular color # or anything anyone reccommends for a green car.. like soemone who's done one before to a green one. I just want to make sure it matches.

Also- what color do you reccommend the "ECLIPSE" to be in the middle piece? Any special thing i need to do for that?

If they don't fit in perfectly, is there any kind of adhesive i could put around them so water woudln't leak in?

One last thing.. I'm having a friend do it for me who has an Eclipse also, but are there any reccommendations of the easiest way to install them?

Thanks-
Emily

i just got altezzas last week...

i also bought mine on ebay and it's fairly easy to install, and as i got told by someone on here, there might be a little space, barely visible, which is fine.

as for painting the center piece, i tried like 5 cans of red and none matched my car, but the Krylon Fusion paint was perfect....i dunno about your green though.

i would leave the eclipse letters in a silver/chrome color.

yea use the Krylin paint for plastic, it works great, about the green color take it to one of those big coorporate bodyshops and see if they can get you the color number that you have. or u might have to use trial and error like eclipse4eva did.

I left the letters the stock color and they look really good, but I do have a black car so am not sure how they would look on yours. I have before and after pics in muy profile just check them out.

You might also just want to paint over the middle altezza light instead and have a clean look without the letter and sell the stock tail lights.

You think they suck? I bought a set for $50 used w/o the center and they fit great and no condensation. I installed a set of TYC on the other hand on my moms Lancer and the quality is far superior then APC.

Yes I do think they suck. I don't mean to offend you in any way, so don't reply to this all mad. I am just not a fan of Altezzas, or any rice.

As for paint try Duplicolor. The make color matched paint. You get it in the automotive section of Wally World. You don't have to worry about sealing. The only holes are where the bolts go. Also here's what you will need.

1 can duplicolor primer
1 can duplicolor matched green base coat.
1 can duplicolor clear coat
220 grit sand paper
400 grit sand paper
1500 grit sand paper (black kind)
3M rubbing compound
terry cloth

Procedure- Sand complete piece with 220. Primer. After it dries sand with 400. Primer. After it dries sand with 400. Clean off good. Very light base coat. Flash time of around 2 minutes. A little thicker base coat. Another minute or so. Another base coat. Let stand for around 10 minutes. Very light clear coat. Flash time of around two minutes. Thicker clear coat. Let sit for a minute or two. Another clear coat. Let dry. Let it cure for a day or two. Reinstall it on car. If there's any orange peel or and spots/runs or anything like that wait a week then lightly wetsand with 1500 until it's smooth. Next put a few dabs of rubbing compound on the wadded up terry cloth and hand buff the piece until it's shiny.

you can get anything basiclyl, just make SURE you seal it all around the edges with clear silcone. this way it won't leak.

also take off the eclispe letters, prep paint. see how you like it with out letters. if you want them back on go to www.machv.com and pick some new ones up for $20

personally i like not having any badges of any kind.

Im telling you guys, don't buy those crappy Generation 3 taillights. I bought a set and sent them back because they are made so cheap. If you really want alteezas buy TYC they are one of the best. They come with new wiring harnesses and bulbs, not to mention they are totally plug n play. Pay the $200 and get the TYC. I have seen alot of different tails and Generation 3 which are the lowest priced ones out there........the WORST.
