96 Eclipse radio wiring
Greetings to the group. I just bought a 96 Eclipse GS yesterday and spent the day de-butchering some guys twisted-wire-and-electrical-tape install. The radio must have been a great disappointment as the speakers were wired all wrong.
I did a search here before I started and using 3 sources was able to verify the installation I performed. I thought I would condense all that and throw it up here for future use. Disclaimer- This worked on my 96 Eclipse, YMMV. Switched 12v- Blue Constant 12v- Red / Black Antenna- White / Black Illumination- Green / White Dim- Black / Yellow Speakers Front Left + White / Blue Front Left - Black / Blue Front Right + White / Red Front Right - Black / Red Rear Left + Yellow / Blue Rear Left - Gray / Blue Rear Right + Yellow / Red Rear Right - Gray / Red Hope this helps someone out. Oh, and if you are the bunghole that installed the radio in my car-

If you have the dashboard tweeters, we're you able to get those working also? That was the only problem i had with rewiring my system.

That was a puzzle for me also. I have the dash tweets and found absolutely no reference to them in any resource I had. My manual refers to how to remove them, but of course even though touting "Wiring Diagrams Included" had no wiring diagrams for anything other than engine and basic chassis. I assumed that they were wired in with the fronts, but they don't seem to be. I am going to take them out and try to chase the wires out of the dash. As I work mostly on Harleys, I am finding the world of Japanese auto wiring to be rife with color changes as the wires progress through intermediary connectors. I'm and electrical engineer, so I am not totally unfamiliar with wiring and such.

Thats exactly what i was gona try and do this weekend coming up. I can only work on my car when i dont have my daughter. I got the tweeters out, just gota look for the colors to match behind the head unit. I think if you can find the wires behind the head unit you should be able to splice them into the front speakers without using a crossover. If you get to it before me, let me know and I'll do the same if i get to it before you do.

I would assume there is some sort of capacitor on the back of the tweet or built in that is a cheap/crappy high pass filter solution, thus one shouldn't need any kind of crossover.

A crossover would be an easy way to go if u can find a decent pair. Just run the front wires into those and mount them behind the door panels....

I did see your post about the wiring diagram and asked about the tweeters but no one really discussed that part of the thread. |
