1997 Eclipse RS (totaled) UGH

Stereo turns off at high volume

I could of sworn I saw this covered a couple months ago so if it was I searched and couldn't find it so I apologize up front.

But when I turn my radio (aftermarket it is an alpine) up too loud it just shuts off and its not even that loud.

Is it a ground maybe or too much current and overheating?
Is my head unit bad?

Edit:

Sorry found the thread mod please delete if you come across

Yeah something might not be hooked up right which is drawing too much current and shutting the radio off. Sometimes referred as clipping (but that's usually from distortion or an overpowering output). I would check your main wires (ground, constant, switched) for voltage at volume 0 and volume at right before it shuts off and notice the difference. If there's a noticeable difference, you've found the problem.

I had a cd player that did it in my caddy and it was the ground, just use a self tapping screw and tap into a large unpainted metal surface.

Sometimes if your alternator is weak, or if the battery is weak, the stereo will cut out at high volume or at least it happened in my 96.
