Question about Amp Power?
I'm considering buying these 4 of these speakers for front and rear
Infinity KAPPA63.7I - Infinity 6-1/2" three-way loudspeaker
and these for the dash
Infinity KAPPA63.7I - Infinity 6-1/2" three-way loudspeaker
So my question is, as I figure it, I would need an amp putting out around 200 W's of RMS, which is the total for all the speakers? If I have an amp with say, 300 RMS output, will that be safe for the speakers?
I have been told that it is much safer to have too much power than too little, but just want to make sure, as this is about 50% too much.
PS. I will be buying a seperate amp for subs later, this amp would be specifically for the speakers.
Thanks for any help

That's fine. Just be sure to not over-gain the amplifier and be sure to set your crossover frequency correctly or you'll start blowing speakers.

How are you going to fit 6.5s in the dash? I got two sets of these and made 6x9 to 6.5 adapters in the rear and regulars 6.5s in the front, I love Bostons...

Damn I added the wrong link for the 4in dash speakers. This is what I ended up going with.
4'in INFINITY KAPPA 42.9i - Dash Speakers
6.5'in INFINITY KAPPA 60.9cs Components - Rear Speakers
6.5'in INFINITY KAPPA 63.9I 3 Way Co-ax - Front Speakers
INFINITY 475A 4-CHANNEL STEREO 360W RMS 2008 - Amp
BOSS 745BA CD MP3 AM/FM CAR RECEIVER W/USB & BLUETOOTH - Stereo
The reason for the Boss stereo is I absolutely love the display and it perfectly matches the interior which was pretty important to me.
Altogether these items cost about $570 including shipping, bidding with reputable sellers on ebay. (All items are brand new) I think the price is pretty decent considering the same items would cost over $1000 at bestbuy or the local audio stores.
However one problem is it seems like now I've got 360W RMS from the amp plus whatever the inbuilt stereo amp puts out. Say 400W RMS total output?
The speakers altogether have a rating of 215W RMS power. Too powerful for the speakers to handle? If it is I might consider customising and adding another pair of speakers in the rear.
Comments / Suggestions are appreciated

I doubt the 4" speakers will fit in the dash... and no don't use the head unit speaker wires...
Watch your ohm loads..
Why did you go with components in the rear and coax in the front?
You usually put component in the front and noting else. coaxs usually go in the back.
I had the extra money so I bought Components for all around...
And don't worry about the power, just set your gains and levels accordingly.

Thanks for the advice. So 4's won't fit in the dash? I emailed crutchfield and they told me those would?? I f***in hope so now that I've ordered them.
I can also put the components in the front, for some reason I thought most placed them in the rear. Shows how much I know :p

Ya it would be better to over power them a little bit then underpower them, and it all depends on what kind of speakers and amp...

You'll need an 8 awg power kit for the amp and I'd probably get a 25-35 ft roll of 12ga speaker wire. Shouldn't cost you more than $50 bucks for the pair. Some people go nuts on wire but I don't really think it matters unless you have high end shit.
Also if you're thinking of getting a sub in the future you may want to get 4 awg power so that you don't have to re do it in the future.
Oh you'll also need a set of RCA's. Here I wouldn't cheap out. Spend about $30 and you won't need to worry about Interference.
I like the stinger brand the best but to be honest your system will probably be fine with just about anything.

Ok so I got everything installed for $300 including all the parts needed.
I asked them if I should get new speaker wires installed but they told me unless I was using EXTREME high end s**t the stock wires would be just fine.
Is this correct? Will this have a noticeable effect on sound quality? And if it does, will it be hard to run all the wires myself?
The major problem we ran into was getting the amp to fit under the passenger seat. After alot of work we got it situated just right but now the passenger seat dosen't move forward and backward.
They told me if I bought a couple of spacers they would lift both seats up half an inch for me so the passenger one will slide. Am not sure about doing it yet.
The other problem we ran into is the 4 in's not fitting in the dash. We put the tweeters from the component pair in the dash. Am debating whether to find a place to put the 4in's so I have a total of 6, or just selling them on. Any suggestions?
For the record, this system sounds great on the high's, just no bass, even with the components. With a sub tho this s*** will pound. The store told me they had just built a custom enclosure in that space behind the passenger seats in the 2G Spyder. Anyone tried this before? I'm thinking of doing this on my own to save the $250 it would cost them to make it.

I wouldn't bother changing the speaker wires.
I bought a set of memphis 6.5" power reference components for the front and put the tweeters in the place of the factory ones in the dash so I would ditch the 4" idea. I made my own enclosure for my 2 kicker L7 12s. I'm actually selling them and going to just go with 1 15" but here's a pic:

Car's aren't like Home audio. Yes better speaker wire would help the quality....on a $600 component set. But even then Eclipses are too loud to notice anyways. And did you say you have a spider? Throw sound quality out the window....or over the window when the top is down.
Yes to the spacers under the seats. There is plenty of room on the bolt to raise the seats another 1/4 inch and still have the safely bolted to the floor
Just try harder fitting the fours in there. I know you can.
As for the sub enclosure, It all depends if you want a trunk or not. You may want to think about putting two RE8's where your rear speakers are. It wouldn't be two hard and they don't require too much space either.

Thanks for the replies. I didn't mean the trunk though. There is a very large space if you remove the upper part of the rear seat. Should be able to fit 2 12's inside, and still have a trunk. I'll be building it as soon as I get some more $$$, spent way too much this month on my car.
